What is Coronavirus

In this post today, We are going to learn about Coronavirus. So, What is Coronavirus? Coronaviruses belongs to a large family of viruses which can cause illness like the common cold, flu to more severe diseases such as MERS-CoV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS-CoV (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) or CoVID-19 is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. This new virus was first detected in the city of Wuhan (China) in December 2019 and has since spread globally. According to the authorities ike CDC and others, the first reported cases had links to a live animal market, suggesting the outbreak started from animal-to-person spread.
  • Transmission
The virus that causes COVID-19 probably emerged from an animal source, but now it seems to be spreading from person to person. It is important to note that person-to-person spread can happen on a continuum. Some diseases are highly contagious (like measles), while other diseases are less so. At this time, it is unclear how easily or sustainably the virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading between people.
  • Symptoms
                             Common signs of infection include
  1. Fever
  2. Cough
  3. Shortness of breath and breathing difficulties
Severe infection can cause pneumonia, kidney failure, acute respiratory syndrome, and even death.
  • Recommendations and Advice
During previous outbreaks of coronavirus SARS and MERS, People-to-people transmission occurred through contact, droplets and fomites which tells us that the transmission mode of the CoVID-19 can be similar. The basic principles to reduce the general risk of transmission include the following:
  • Close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory infections should be avoided at any cost.
  • Avoid unsafe or unprotected contact with farm and wild animals.
  • Infected people should practice cough etiquettes (cover cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash, maintain distance and wash hands with soap for minimum 20 seconds, specially before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing and after going to the bathroom).
  • Thoroughly cook meat and eggs.
  • People who are infected should use facemasks to help prevent the spread of the disease to  others. The use of facemasks is also necessary for health workers and people who are taking care of someone at home or in a health care facility.
  • Facemasks are not recommended for people who are healthy and well.
  • Treatment
Currently there is no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (CoVID-19) and no specific antiviral treatment recommended for COVID-19. Infected people receives supportive care to help relieve symptoms of the disease. For severe cases, treatment should include care to support vital organ functions.. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus and Increase your immunity by natural means.
