Six Home Remedies to Treat Toothache and Abscessed Tooth


Today, we are going to discuss about some effective home remedies to treat toothache and abscessed tooth. However an abscessed tooth can become a severe condition as the bacteria if not treated properly can progress to your face and bone. So if symptoms doesn't subside then you must consult your doctor. Check below the most effective home remedies to treat tooth infections.


1. Baking Soda

This is an effective option for treating an abscessed tooth. This can be already available in your kitchen. It is best known for removing plaque in the mouth and also has antibacterial properties. Follow the steps below on how to use it effectively

Mix 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda with 1/2 cup of water and a pinch of salt.
Swish this in your mouth for up to three to five minutes.
Spit it, and repeat until you’ve finished the mixture.

You can repeat this up to two times per day.


2. Salt Water Rinse

Rinsing your mouth with salt water is an easy and affordable option of temporary relief of abscessed tooth. It can also enhance wound healing and healthy gums.

Mix 1/2 tablespoon of normal table salt with ½ cup of warm tap water
Rinse your mouth with the salt water, Try to swish it around inside the mouth for at         least 2 minutes
Spit the water out


3. Clove Oil

Clove oil is an ancient natural toothache remedy. It may have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s available in many grocery stores as well as online.
It comes in diluted forms as well as the very concentrated clove essential oil. If using the essential oil form, remember to dilute it (3 to 5 drops of essential oil in an ounce of a carrier oil).

How to use this remedy:

Apply the diluted oil to the affected area by placing a few drops on a cotton ball or swab.
You can also make a clove oil mouthwash by placing a few drops of the oil into a small glass of water.


Clove oil may be used up to three times per day.


4. Garlic

Garlic is another effective remedy to be used against a toothache and as bacteria killer. Follow the steps below on how to use it effectively

Crush a fresh clove of garlic and make a paste
Rub this paste on infected area

This can be repeated two to three times a day


5. Oil Pulling

It is strongly believed that oil pulling removes toxins from gums and teeth. You just have to swish a small amount of oil in your mouth for a few minutes and spit it out. Check the steps below on how to use it effectively

Take 1 tsp of oil (Coconut oil or Sesame oil or Olive oil) in your mouth
Swish the oil in your mouth around your teeth for 15-20 min.
Don’t swallow the oil, after swishing spit it out in a garbage can


6. Icing or Cold Compress

Icing or cold compress on the affected side of toothache helps reduce swelling and pain. Follow the steps below on how to use it effectively

Put some ice cubes in a dry towel
Place this compress against your skin around the affected area
Use it for 20 minutes interval

This can be repeated two to three times a day
